Production of Biodiesel from Vegetable Oils.

The technology is a process of making biodiesel from crude vegetable oil with high free fatty acid(FFA). This process comprises of two steps. In the first step, which is known as pretreatment step, the FFA of crude oil is reduced to around 1 % with methanol as reagent and H2SO4 as catalyst. In the second step, the pretreated oil is subjected to transesterification using methanol and base catalyst. Following this procedure attempts made to produce biodiesel using vegetable oils such as Jatropha, Karanja, Mahua, Simaruba etc. gave a yield as high as 98%.
