Technique for generation of high tensile strength jute fiber through microbial retting process.
The Technology
A protocol for retting of green stems of cultivated jute species has been developed, tested and undergone field trials in farmer’s field. Selected bacterial consortium is utilized as inoculum for fermentation in a defined growth condition in small water reservoirs in farmer’s field. The retting is usually completed in around 10 days requiring less water. The protocol helps in liberating fibers quite easily and their handling demands less physical labour. The generated fibers have been found to possess high tensile strength and high grade fiber quality for industrial use.
