Name of the Technology
Reversible Inhibition of Sperm Under Guidance (RISUG)
The Technology
This is a non hormonal male injectable contraceptive which works by a simple injection into the vas deferens, the vessel through which the sperm moves before ejaculation. In a matter of minutes, the injection coats the walls of the vas with a clear gel made of the copolymer styrene/maleic anhydride (SMA) with the solvent dimethyl sulfoxide. The drug surface has a positive and negative electric charge mosaic. The differential charge from the gel ruptures the sperm cell's membrane as it passes through the vas and disables the sperm before they can start their journey to fertilize the female gamete. Within an hour of the injection, the drug produces an electric charge that nullifies the charge of the spermatozoa, preventing it from penetrating the ovum. This novel electrical charge imbalance phenomenon remains established in the male reproductive organ until the male couple wants to reverse it.
Preliminary research findings also indicate that the contraceptive may help to check the spread of sexually transmitted diseases from male to female.
USP
  • The contraceptive molecule's composition is made to be effective for more than 10 years (long lasting).
  • It is doctor friendly while injecting.
  • Safe with almost no side effects.
  • Antimicrobial.
Advantages
  • Non-surgical.
