Name of the Technology
A Pumping System for increasing Pressure of Blood or a Fluid in a Controlled and Stepwise Mode.
The Technology
A miniaturized device comprising of a biventricular pump and an aortic suction pump driven by electric power from a battery and controlled by a controller is developed. The biventricular pump consists of two identical staged multi-actuated pump systems with a series of interconnected diaphragm chambers inside a single housing. The valves are magnetically controlled in a mode linked to the actuation of each section of the pump. The diaphragm membranes are compressed in succession by a motor having electromagnetic arm, length of which is controlled to increase the pressure from the outflow cannula. The outflow pressure also increases by increasing the stiffness of the diaphragm membrane from inflow towards outflow cannula. The motor is driven by electric power from a battery and is controlled by a controller.
USP
The uniqueness lies in the staged multi-actuated biventricular pump being based on the features of a cockroach heart. The cockroach is a very hardy animal which has a fail safe heart. It has a unique 13 chambered heart which enables its survival even in case of dysfunction of a chamber which cannot be said in case of human being. The inventiveness lies in recognizing the merits of cockroach heart and adapting to the needs of the human system and combining peristaltic aortic pump with heart pumping.
Advantages
The main advantage of the staged multiactuated pump is that, it increases the pressure of the blood from the inflow towards the outflow conduit gradually in each diaphragm. The stepwise rise in pressure reduces the trauma to the blood cells and will also reduce the chance of thrombus formation.
